Our Verdict

Umbrellas definitely have their place in the trekking world; they are the most breathable of all waterproofs keeping you dry and comfortable; they are not so useful when the rain is horizontal or it’s very windy, however. Also useful as sun protection, when high altitude trekking, it can sometimes be virtually impossible to find shade, which is where a decent umbrella comes into its own.
