Our Verdict

If you’re counting every gram but still want a fully enclosed shelter, the Fly Creek UL2 continues to hit that sweet spot. The 2025 update builds on a tried-and-tested design with lighter, stronger materials and subtle tweaks that improve durability without compromising weight.

At just 886g (excluding pegs and bags), it’s squarely aimed at fastpackers and thru-hikers. The single-pole setup is quick to pitch and keeps weight to a minimum, though it can feel a little twitchy in rough weather. Interior space is snug but manageable—ideal for one with room to spread out, or two if you’re travelling light and get on very well with your tent buddy, but predominantly, this is a one-person shelter. The vestibule has just enough room for a couple of packs and boots, but not much more.

The new fabric performs well in wet conditions and feels far more confidence-inspiring than previous versions. It’s still ultralight and minimal, but the upgraded materials—stronger, more waterproof, and more fade-resistant thanks to solution-dyed fabrics- make it feel more durable over time. Two generous side pockets and a ceiling stash provide enough storage to keep your essentials tidy and within easy reach. It’s not the tent I’d choose for exposed summit camps, but it’s an excellent companion for moving fast between established sites.
