Our Verdict

The Runbold IV Shorts from Mammut strike a nice balance between durability and trail comfort. At 190g (medium), they’re light enough for summer use but feel robust thanks to the tough, stretchy fabric. The 4-way stretch offers excellent freedom of movement, and I’ve had no complaints when scrambling or moving fast on steeper ground. Breathability is solid, and they quickly dry..

The adjustable hook-and-loop waistband is easy to fine-tune on the go, and the athletic cut feels neat without being restrictive. Storage is practical—four zip-secure pockets, including a seat and leg pocket, give you decent options for stashing snacks, a compass, or a phone.
