The Insulated Double V is super comfortable double sleeping mat that gives you both a lot more protection from the cold, keeping you both warm through the night. The storage bag/pump sack is useful and makes inflating the mat much easier.

Our Verdict

Klymit’s Insulated Double V Sleeping Mat is a great option for anyone after a double sleeping mat. It retains a lot of the features of the original Static V in that it is still a lightweight sleeping mat using body mapping technology at a really competitive price. It features the v-chamber design which limits air movement and heat loss while offering a uniquely ergonomic body map which is optimzed for performance and comfort.

This double version comes in a handy storage bag which doubles as a pump sack so it saves a lot of time and energy wherever you are. Like some of the newer Klymit sleeping mats it features an easy-to-use valve that makes inflating and deflating even easier. You also get a bonus patch kit for making field repairs.

This mat is surprisingly comfortable and great for camping, the R-Value on this insulated version is much greater than the non-insulated version so if you do feel the cold when the temperatures drop the extra weight here is worth it for the warmth it delivers.

ASTM R-Value:

From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.

You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.

In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures.
