Looking for an every-activity winter midlayer? The new Geon Hoody is a mid-weight stretch fleece offering easy low-bulk mountain insulation for cold-weather climbing, scrambling and hiking.

The new Geon Hoody is designed to provide winter comfort for Big Mountain days. Built from Thermic™ polyester stretch fleece with 4% elastane, it combines inherent hydrophobic properties with outstanding breathability and all the movement you need for fast-paced mountain sport. The Geon Hoody is equipped with a brushed grid backer for extra strength, as well as flatlock low-bulk seams and a rolled hem and cuff for extra comfort. The hood also uses a snug, low-profile design that fits neatly under a helmet, so you can leave your hat in your pack and adjust your warmth to match the conditions and activities.

With its full-length front YKK zip and secure, zipped hand pockets, our new Geon Hoody is the ideal all-mountain, multipurpose insulation layer.

Our Verdict

Rab’s Geon Hoody falls into the mid-weight category for fleece. This top provides a good amount of warmth and comfort in a nice looking package. The Thermic stretch fleece is versatile and durable so it’s worth the weight over lighter alternatives. It does a good job in regulating heat more effectively than normal, traditional fleece. It allows excess heat to escape when things warm up but in colder conditions that warm air can be trapped in to keep you warm. It is also really good at wicking moisture and dries pretty quickly too so it works really well for a range of outdoor activities.

The Geon combines comfort, performance and value really well. This is a great all-rounder, from acting as an effective mid-layer in cold conditions to being a single outer layer in milder conditions this fleece works as well for hiking as it does for comfortable casual wear. This hoody version adds that extra coverage and warmth but still has the ability to vent well with the half length front zip which will appeal to many.
