The Fire Maple Petrel G2 Ultralight Pot (750ml) is a clever bit of kit for solo backpackers or anyone wanting a compact cook system without compromising on boil time. The integrated heat exchanger makes a noticeable difference when it comes to efficiency — I’ve found it reliably quicker to boil water than similarly sized pots, and that matters when you’re rationing fuel. It’s short, wide base pairs well with common triangle-support stoves and gives it a stable footprint even on uneven ground.

At just 185g, it’s light but doesn’t feel flimsy. The fold-out handle is functional and locks over the lid when packed — a nice touch for keeping things tidy. I like that it fits a 230g gas canister. The BPA-free lid is see-through with a steam vent, which is handy, and the pouring spout works well.
